An Easy Way To Personalize Christmas Stockings

On Monday's "Grandma & Me" post I shared a picture of my grandchildren holding these cute red stockings.  I said in that post that I would be explain how I personalized the stockings in a future craft post...so here we are!

I found these stockings at Hobby Lobby for 50% off so they cost $2.00 each.  At that price, why bother to make them?  But, I really wanted to personalize the stockings.  I first looked on Etsy but the cost of personalized tags was triple the cost of the stockings or more.  So then I went on Pinterest to see how I could do it myself.  Most of the ideas on Pinterest involved sewing or embroidering, which I know how to do, I just didn't want to do it.  I wanted something "Wow Worthy" but quick and simple, so this is what I came up.

I've been a sewer/paper-crafter most of my life, and what comes with that hobby is enough "stash" that I never need to buy anything again.  All I ever run out of is white paper and glue.  So everything I used to make these tags I found in my craft room.

For the tag itself, I used a burlap paper that I bought years ago from a craft store.  If it's no longer available, you could also use just plain burlap.

In this picture you can see the paper backing.  I hand cut the tag myself then using an eyelet punch, I put an eyelet in.  If you don't have an eyelet punch, just poke a hole in the burlap.  It's not as finished looking, but it will do the job.

I cut the letters of each name out of black card stock using my Circuit Expression and glued them to the tag.  Now I can hear you all scream "I don't have one of those expensive cutting machines!"  No worries!  Black letter stickers purchased from a craft store will work just as well!

I used a small white ribbon to tie the tag to the stocking.

I just love the way these tags turned out and it was a lot easier to make than embroidering their names on the stockings.

And in case you missed Monday's fashion post, here are my two darling grandchildren with their stockings.  I think Alethea is perplexed why there is nothing inside, but Atticus is thrilled just to have a stocking to play with.

Have A Great Day! Amy
